Update from the Eco-Congregation Network in Shetland
On Saturday 5th September registered Eco-Congregations in Shetland were pleased to host a stall at the 4th Annual Shetland Climate Festival, where we were able to engage with other local community organisations, in addition to members of the public.
Organised by Shetland Islands Council the Festival brought together a wide ranging group of businesses and community organisations with the aim of looking at Climate Change from a Shetland perspective.
In addition to the many organisations present there were talks throughout the day, poetry, a cookery demonstration using local ingredients, a repair café and activities for children.
This is the first year the Eco-Congregations have participated and it gave an excellent opportunity to engage with members of the public explaining that, for us, care for creation and climate justice are front and central to our Christian faith and very much part of church life.
Looking ahead we are working with Shetland Climate Café and Shetland Methodist District arranging to show the Peoples Emergency Briefing Film in December.
