To mark the ecumenical Season of Creation, St Ninian’s Pollokshields presents Improvisations on Creation and Climate – a series of two concerts on Friday 25 September and Friday 2 October.
The concerts feature Glasgow-based musicians improvising with biofeedback signals from locally gathered plants, fed through a specialist music synthesiser into the church’s digital organ – creating a musical ecosystem where plants ‘play’ the organ, interwoven with voice, electronic instruments and Scottish smallpipes. Each concert lasts around an hour and a half. The first reflects on St Hildegard of Bingen and her themes of viriditas and creativity; the second on St Francis of Assisi’s Canticle of the Creatures, ecology and concern for the poor.
Admission is free, with a recommended donation of £10 per person, and all proceeds go to South Seeds, the Glasgow-based fuel poverty and environmental charity.
