Congratulations to Broughty Ferry Parish Church on their Eco-congregation Scotland Silver Award!
The eco-congregation group together with the leadership and wider congregation have demonstrated excellent practice in caring for creation in their spiritual life, practical action and global awareness.
Some activities which have been undertaken in the last two years include:-
- Eco-tips in Connecting Monthly and Orders of Service
- Reviewing and improving recycling, e.g. printer cartridges, spectacles, stamps
- Wild Worship Services in St Aidan’s Graveyard
- Cultivating part of the Community Garden in Queen Street led by young people
- Bug hotels, fresh water for birds and insects
- Participating in “Plastic Free Broughty Ferry”
- Implement a Fairtrade Policy – increasingly using FT coffee, tea, sugar and flowers.
- Surveying flora and fauna in St Aidan’s Graveyard – 50 species of wildflowers have been recorded together with several members seeing pipistrelle bats in September.
- Information on display boards at both worship centres and increasingly through social media
Our award assessors praised the commitment and enthusiasm of the Eco-Congregation Group and were particularly impressed with the way in which the group is integrated and supported within the church. They also commended the way in which caring for creation is woven through services and the innovative outdoor ‘Wild Worship’ services that are being explored and noted for their success.
